Loctite EA 3478 is a two-part, ferro-silicon filled epoxy repair compound that resurfaces, rebuilds, and restores worn or corroded metal parts without welding or machining downtime. Ideal for restoring tolerances on worn shafts, repairing worn keyways, rebuilding damaged housings, and filling pitted surfaces in worn machinery, Loctite EA 3478 cures to a metal-like finish with excellent machinability.

This 100% solid epoxy system is applied at room temperature (15°C to 30°C) and reaches handling strength with a working life of 20 minutes. Loctite EA 3478 resists corrosion, abrasion, and chemicals – making it an outstanding emergency and planned maintenance repair compound for industrial environments.

How to Use Loctite EA 3478

1. Remove dirt, oil, and grease with a suitable cleaner (e.g., Loctite SF 7840™).
2. Blast all surfaces to 75–100 micron depth profile (Near White Metal, SIS SA 2½).
3. Clean blasted surfaces with a waterless cleaner (e.g., Loctite SF 7611™).
4. Mix resin to hardener at 4:1 by volume until colour is consistent.
5. Machine the worn area to a 3 mm square shoulder and add a spiral cut for mechanical keying.
6. Apply mixed material, build up with excess, then machine to original dimensions after cure.
7. Visually inspect for pinholes or voids; repair by abrading and reapplying.
