This red gel-like anaerobic sealant cures in the absence of air between close metal surfaces, including both active metals (mild steel) and passive substrates such as aluminium with low copper content. Loctite 518 is formulated with contamination tolerance, curing even in the presence of minor oils from cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion, and protection fluids.

How to Use Loctite 518

1. Clean flange surfaces and ensure they are free from grease and contaminants.
2. Apply as a continuous bead, rolled film, or by screen printing to one flange surface.
3. For gaps greater than 0.125 mm, apply to both flange surfaces using a pen roller.
4. Tighten flanges as soon as possible after assembly to avoid shimming.
5. Low pressures (<0.05 MPa) may be used immediately to confirm a complete seal before full cure.
