As a neutral-cure silicone façade sealant, Silirub 989 is engineered for long-term elasticity and weather resistance rather than rapid cure speed, ensuring durable performance across seasonal temperature swings and UV cycling typical of building exteriors. Joint dimension guidelines vary by application: for glazing and window applications, top sealing requires a minimum width of 4mm and depth of at least 6mm, with connection joints around windows requiring a minimum width of 10mm. For general weatherseal joints, recommended depth is 5mm for joint widths of 5–10mm, scaling to half the joint width for wider joints up to 30mm.

Applications

Silirub 989 is used for weatherseal applications in curtain wall systems, all usual building, connection, expansion, and dilatation joints, and double-glazing system applications. It's a preferred choice in façade engineering where long-term weatherproofing and structural movement accommodation are equally critical.

Directions for Use

Apply with a manual or pneumatic caulking gun. Clean with white spirit or Surface Cleaner immediately after use, and finish with a soapy solution or Soudal Finishing Solution before the sealant skins over. The use of Soudal Surface Activator is recommended in combination with powder-coated aluminium for optimal adhesion. Do not use Silirub 989 on natural stones like marble or granite, as it can cause staining — use Soudal Silirub MA instead. Note that Silirub 989 is not suitable for use on polycarbonate; use Silirub PC or Silirub AL instead.
